Casten Celebrates $1 Billion in Funding for Illinois-Based Midwest Hydrogen Hub
Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) released the following statement regarding the Department of Energy announcement of $1 billion in funding for a Midwest Hydrogen Hub:
“The $1 billion funding to be received by the Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen is a great step in clean energy innovation and decarbonizing our economy,” said Rep. Sean Casten. “I was proud to vote to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and allocate this funding to the Department of Energy to build a clean hydrogen network, an essential part to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Not only will this funding be used to produce clean energy to fuel our local economy, but it’ll also create nearly 14,000 new jobs, build key infrastructure, and strengthen communities throughout Illinois.”
In addition to his support for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that allocated this funding, Rep. Casten previously joined Members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation in a letter to Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in support of Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen’s proposal for the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs Funding Opportunity.
The Midwest Hydrogen Hub will enable decarbonization through strategic hydrogen uses including steel and glass production, refining, heavy-duty transportation, and sustainable aviation fuel.
